Is your organization built for innovation? Does your company culture foster creativity and collaboration? Have you established a sound innovation strategy? How do you know? Just as defining "innovation" requires an agreed upon language, the pursuit of innovation can seem like an abstract, messy endeavor without some established yardsticks to determine how you are doing. Part of the challenge is simply knowing which questions to ask.
Whenever we begin an innovation project with a client we start by conducting an innovation diagnostic to assess the current state of innovation in their organization. We conduct interviews and send out an Innovation Diagnostic to a large cross section of the organization, then analyze the responses to see where the organization's strengths, weakness, and opportunities for improvement lie. Clients are frequently quite surprised by the results, because they realize they were not setting their business up for succesful growth by focusing on innovation's critical success factors.
